Our founders, Apostolos and Tina Koutras, spent their formative years immersed in the moody, rain-soaked landscapes of the Gothic aesthetic and the glorious 80s Slasher Boom. With this unique insight into what creates true, captivating atmosphere, they created the original Horrified Candles line.

“As horror fans, feeling completely transported, rather than just simply scented, is the key,” they said.

“The biggest immersion mistake that modern fans make is using thin, and generic scents,” they said. “In the day to day, it might smell okay, but once the music starts, it's just background noise (or scent in this case). The deeper you want the vibe, the more complex your scent must be. It’s not a simple air freshener anymore.”

Long before founding Horrified Candles, Apostolos and Tina were dedicated to bottling all those atmospheric feels. You know, the captivating sound of rain and the electric chill of a good horror film.

They ran with the concept of Atmospheric Scene Creation with their layered, high-concept fragrance blends for use in their own lair. They wanted the scent to build the setting—a damp graveyard, an eccentric lab, autumn woods at midnight—and this approach later became the inspiration for the Classic Monsters Collection.

They decided—after years of collecting sub-par, seasonal scents—to go create their own. After years of keeping this secret to themselves, they went into the atmosphere business themselves. They wanted to design a line of candles that was all about revealing, embracing, and summoning the ultimate macabre atmosphere at any time of year. We are proud to say they succeeded... and Horrified Candles was born.

Today, the Classic Monsters Collection is a customer favorite, creating the deep, complex atmosphere ideal for every eerie setting.
